TikTok Shop in beauty: how the in-app store beat the brand’s own site

  3. Beauty case study: TikTok Shop, +22% conversion rate

How social commerce on TikTok let a beauty brand outperform its own e-commerce.

On your own website there are still several steps between the moment someone is convinced and the moment they pay: open the site, find the product, register, enter the details. TikTok Shop removes that distance — whoever watches the video can buy without leaving the app. What follows is a real project: what we did, at what cadence, and what came out of it.

Measured increase:

+22%

Conversion rate on the TikTok Shop

Compared with the brand’s own website

The comparison is between two conversion rates for the same brand over the same period: the in-app store and the website. The in-app store converted more than a fifth better. ⚠️ This is the conversion rate, not revenue: it says that people who arrive buy more readily, not that the channel carries more volume than the site.

What we did, in three steps

The brand — premium beauty — was looking for a platform that put discovery and purchase in the same place. The approach was methodical, and built around TikTok’s native experience rather than against it.

1. Synced catalogue, product pages built for a phone

First, the inventory had to be synchronised in real time and laid out for TikTok’s mobile display. A clear product page, demonstration video in place and competitive pricing: the things that remove the first reasons not to buy.

2. Creator lives, four a month

The real engine was Live Shopping run systematically — four sessions a month, with prominent beauty creators. That produced three things:

  • A real deadline: offers valid only during the live.
  • The product seen in use: creators demonstrating it and answering questions as they went.
  • Buying in the moment: entertainment turning a viewer into a purchase before the impulse faded.

3. Video Shopping Ads supporting the lives

To sustain the lives and drive direct purchases we built Video Shopping Ads showing the products in use, sending people straight to pre-filled baskets inside TikTok Shop. Removing that friction is the main reason the conversion rate came out where it did.

Why the in-app store converted better here

Two things explain the result, and they only apply where both are present:

  • No extra step: the buyer never leaves the app and pays where they are already registered.
  • Bought through discovery, not search: the customer was not looking for that product — they saw someone they trust using it.
