Lubrialpha case study: Amazon account management in the automotive sector

Project overview

Lubrialpha, a reseller of Castrol motor oil, had a hard problem: growing visibility and sales on Amazon in a category that is both crowded and saturated, where standing out and winning repeat customers is genuinely difficult. On top of that, an earlier run of advertising had underperformed, leaving them with a poor click-through rate and a return on ad spend that did not justify the budget.

What the client wanted

Approach and strategy

We took a structured, data-led approach. The steps that mattered:

  • Market and keyword analysis. A detailed keyword study and market research to find how people actually search in this category and where the niches sit.
  • Analysis of the previous campaigns’ performance, to establish what had worked and what had burnt budget.
  • Campaign build. Tightly targeted PPC campaigns, segmented by long-tail keywords and product-specific phrases.
  • Dynamic bidding rules, so the spend follows the return rather than the calendar.
  • Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Products used together: the first for the brand, the second for the SKUs that carry the margin.
  • Optimisation while running. Continuous monitoring and adjustment, not a monthly review.
  • A/B testing of creative and product copy to find the combinations that convert.
  • Retargeting to recover the customers who looked and did not buy.

The work produced measurable movement on every lever we touched: sales, advertising return and the breadth of the customer base.

The percentages below are 2025 against the previous year. The project is still running: in 2026 growth continued and the 2025 level has already been passed — and the context is worth stating, because it is not a detail. The lubricants market is going through a refining squeeze, with reduced product availability. Growing while the goods are scarce is a different result from growing in a full market.
