  2. Amazon Brand Registry: enrolment, protection and brand management

What Brand Registry is, and what we do with it

Amazon Brand Registry is a free programme: Amazon charges nothing to enrol. Two things are needed: an active registered trade mark — or, in some cases, an application still pending — and the brand name, or a logo containing it, permanently affixed to the product or its packaging. Enrolled brands get A+ Content, Brand Store, Transparency, Project Zero and the tools for reporting intellectual property infringement.

(Requirements and tools are on Amazon’s own page.)

We do not register trade marks: that is a job for an intellectual property attorney. We prepare and run the enrolment of a mark that is already yours, and then look after it over time: infringement reports, listing monitoring, A+ content and Brand Store, brand transfers and Transparency.

What Brand Registry costs

Three things get confused into a single price here, and it is worth separating them.

  • The registered trade mark is the entry requirement and carries its own cost, paid to the trade mark office, not to us. Registering a trade mark is not a service we offer: if you do not have one yet, that route goes through an IP attorney.
  • Enrolment in the programme is a procedure, not a product: what costs is preparing and running the application, not a fee to Amazon.
  • Ongoing management is the part genuinely worth delegating: infringement reports, listing monitoring, A+ content and Brand Store. That is covered by a monthly fee.

When you cannot use Brand Registry — or do not need it

The programme has strict requirements, and in some cases it is not the answer to your problem.

  • You have no registered trade mark, or the application is pending without meeting Amazon’s requirements. That has to be closed first; Brand Registry comes after.
  • You resell other people’s products. The programme protects whoever owns the mark: as a reseller, your problems are addressed with different tools.
  • Your problem is an unauthorised seller listing genuine goods. Brand Registry helps against infringement, but a distribution issue is settled in the contracts, not with a report.

We enrol your trade mark into Amazon Brand Registry and then protect it over time: reporting abuse, handling brand transfers, joining the Transparency programme and keeping the tools enrolment unlocks actually in use.

What the service covers

Brand Registry is not a box to tick once and forget: it is something you hold. Once the mark is enrolled, Amazon opens protection and selling tools that only work if they are used continuously — and every infringement has to be reported individually, with the evidence Amazon asks for. Otherwise it stays online.

How we work

Three phases. The first exists to establish whether the conditions are there at all: if they are not, we say so before starting.

FASE

01

Checking the requirements

We check the mark, the registration class and the markets it covers. Brand Registry accepts a pending application; Transparency requires a mark already registered and a GTIN for every product.

02

Enrolment and verification

We file the application, handle the verification code and the correspondence with Amazon through to approval. At the end your account holds rights-owner status — the condition for everything else.

FASE

03

Protection over time

We watch the listings, report infringements with the evidence Amazon requires, handle brand transfers and Transparency enrolment, and keep the unlocked tools alive.

The questions we are asked most

Not necessarily. Brand Registry accepts a mark that is registered or pending for the brand name or logo, issued by a designated government trade mark office. The brand name, or a logo containing it, must also be permanently affixed to the product or its packaging. Transparency is different: there the mark must already be registered.

Enrolment itself is free: Amazon charges no fee. What costs is preparing and running the application. Transparency is separate: there is no joining fee and no minimum quantity, but Amazon charges for the codes issued.

You report it to Amazon, but it is not a matter of pressing a button. Every infringement has to be documented with the evidence Amazon requires: without it the report is rejected and the listing stays up. That is the part that takes the time, and it is the part we handle, case by case.

Yes, and it is a delicate procedure: handled badly it can cost you access to the brand tools or suppress the listings. We run it step by step, following Amazon’s own process.

It is the programme that assigns a unique code to every single unit produced: the buyer can scan it in the Amazon app and confirm the product is genuine. It requires a Brand Registry account with rights-owner status, a registered trade mark and a GTIN per product. It is worth it above all for brands suffering counterfeits, but it means changing the packaging line: we work that through with you before starting.

We have an in-house lawyer who runs the casework: account reinstatements, trade mark questions, reports and transfers. It is not a service sold separately, it is how we work. For cases that need a structured firm we draw on a pool of external lawyers and a network of accountants.
