Amazon seller account suspended: what to do, and what Amazon is obliged to do

  2. Amazon account suspended: reinstatement and Plan of Action

What Amazon is obliged to do when it suspends you

Most sellers find out from a notification and assume all they can do is wait. That is not the case: Regulation (EU) 2019/1150 — the Platform-to-Business Regulation, which applies to every marketplace operating in the Union — places specific obligations on Amazon towards the businesses selling on it.

  • Statement of reasons and notice. Before terminating its services to a seller entirely, the platform must give the reasons on a durable medium with at least 30 days’ notice (Art. 4). The notice period does not apply where the termination is imposed by a legal obligation.
  • A free internal complaint system. The platform must provide an internal complaint-handling system that is free and easily accessible, and must handle complaints «swiftly and effectively» (Art. 11).
  • Mediation. The terms and conditions must name at least two mediators the seller can turn to when the internal complaint does not resolve the matter (Art. 12).

Knowing this changes how the appeal is written. A Plan of Action that simply apologises is a plea for leniency; one built on the reasons Amazon is required to give is a documented challenge. (Text of the Regulation on EUR-Lex.)

Who handles the case

We have an in-house legal consultant — a consultant, not a solicitor — who works on suspension cases alongside the account specialists. When a matter needs proper legal representation we bring in one of two external firms, chosen by the type of dispute. The difference from a general legal practice is that the appeal is written by people who also know the channel: we are a certified Amazon SPN partner, and whoever writes the Plan of Action knows what Amazon can see in the account dashboard while reading it.

What it costs to get an account reinstated

The initial analysis is free. We read the notice you received, the account history and the performance data, to establish what the case actually turns on — and whether it turns on anything at all.

After that there is no rate card, and anyone quoting one before seeing the account is guessing. The price is the drafting work: a Plan of Action worth filing reconstructs the real cause, gathers the evidence and answers the allegation point by point — and often one is not enough.

  • From €300 for a straightforward reinstatement: clear cause, documentation already available, a single Plan of Action.
  • Up to several thousand euro where the case is complex: multiple intertwined allegations, successive Plans of Action, reconstructing the paper trail, or where a law firm has to be involved.

The range is wide for a specific reason: reinstatement depends on the reason for the suspension. Two accounts suspended on the same day can take one week and three months respectively. It is project work, with a beginning and an end, not an ongoing engagement — and it is priced as such.

And if the case is weak we tell you first. Putting that in writing is more honest than invoicing a Plan of Action that is going to be rejected.

With a suspension the problem is often not only reopening the account: we also work on releasing withheld funds — the line that hurts most while you are stopped — on mediation with Amazon when the internal complaint is not enough, and on arbitration in the cases that have to go outside the platform.

If you write to us we reply within 24 hours, usually the same day. With an account stopped, every day that passes is revenue that does not come back.

When it does not make sense — and when we say no

First, the rule that always applies, and that is worth knowing before spending anything: reinstatement depends on the violation alleged and on how strong the evidence you hold against it is. Two variables, and neither improves by writing a more persuasive appeal. That is why the first thing we ask for is the documents, not the story.

When an appeal makes no sense

  • You are not a seller. If the problem is your customer account — purchases, Prime, payments — the route is Amazon customer service, not a Plan of Action.
  • The termination is imposed by a legal obligation. In that case Regulation (EU) 2019/1150 removes even the 30-day notice: the room to challenge is somewhere else entirely, and it should be assessed before spending.
  • The allegation is well-founded and documented. A Plan of Action that denies the evidence makes the position worse. There the work is to admit, correct and demonstrate the change: it can be done, but it is a different and longer job.

When we are the ones saying no

There are promises circulating on this subject that do not stand up. These are the cases we turn down.

  • You are looking for someone «who knows someone» inside Amazon. It does not work like that, and anyone implying it does is misleading you: appeals are won on facts and documentation.
  • You want guaranteed reinstatement. The decision is Amazon’s. We can commit to the quality of the Plan of Action and to how the appeal is run, not to the outcome.
  • You have already sent several rejected appeals saying different things each time. It can still be done, but it gets harder: consistency between appeals matters, and contradictory versions stay on the record.
  • The real problem is another linked account that has not been dealt with. While that situation is open, working on this account alone achieves little.

If the analysis says there is no room, we tell you: we would rather lose the instruction than take it on an appeal that will not pass.

Amazon consultant preparing a Plan of Action for a suspended seller account

If your Amazon account has been blocked or suspended, the situation needs a methodical approach. Reacting to the notification with an approximate answer and incomplete documents does not work.

What is needed is a detailed Plan of Action backed by concrete evidence. Having the appeal handled with proper legal support materially improves the odds of getting the account back quickly, and of avoiding a permanent decision.

How to write a Plan of Action that Amazon accepts

An acceptable Plan of Action answers three things: what the real cause was, what you have already done to remove it, and what you have put in place so it does not happen again. Everything else is framing — if any one of those three is missing it is rejected, however well written it is. The three pillars in detail:

Why an Amazon account gets suspended: causes and rules

The most common causes are deteriorating performance metrics (ODR, A-to-z claims), policy violations and product compliance problems. Amazon enforces its Business Solutions Agreement and its Intellectual Property Policy strictly. Reading the logistics and messaging data properly is what identifies the root of the problem — and that is the first step towards a Plan of Action that works.

Where legal support actually changes the outcome

Legal input matters when the cause involves complex ground such as intellectual property disputes or contractual termination. Having the appeal read by people who interpret the rules correctly avoids the procedural mistakes that sink it. It also helps build the internal compliance procedures that stop the next deactivation before it starts.

Why generic appeals get rejected (and why nobody can quote you a success rate)

Generic appeals — a copied template, an automatically generated text, an answer written in anger — are almost always rejected with a standard reply from the Seller Performance team, because they do not reconstruct the cause and they bring no evidence. Amazon does not publish the acceptance rate for appeals: anyone quoting you a percentage is inventing it.

Opening a new account to get around the block is strongly inadvisable. Amazon detects the links between devices, IP addresses and payment cards, and that route ends in permanent termination.

Best practice and prevention

A structured prevention plan is what lowers the risk:

  • IP violations: answer with current legal documents — supply contracts and brand authorisations.
  • Immediate corrective action: refunds issued, FBA stock removed, supplier audits documented.
  • Prevention inside the company: standard operating procedures and security protocols your staff actually follow.

Mistakes to avoid entirely

  • Opening a new account to bypass the block: it leads to a permanent, linked suspension.
  • Sending emotional replies to support that ignore the contractual facts or the documentary evidence.
  • Altering or fabricating supplier invoices. Amazon verifies the supply chain, and this ends the case rather than saving it.

Frequently asked questions

Establish the cause, gather the documents, and file a structured Plan of Action. In that order — the appeal written before the evidence is collected is the one that gets rejected.

It depends on the violation and on the quality of the evidence: anywhere from a week to three months. Anyone promising you a date does not know it.

Yes. We run the appeal and write the Plan of Action, and where it is needed we also pursue the release of withheld funds, mediation and arbitration.

When the suspension involves serious ground — Section 3, counterfeit allegations, withheld funds — or when standard appeals have already failed.

You can. The point is not who writes the appeal, but whether the cause you state matches the one alleged and whether you hold the evidence. We can help with that; the decision is Amazon’s.

It varies. A Plan of Action framed correctly in legal terms can see the account restored in days. Complex supply-chain cases take weeks.

Traceable official invoices, supply contracts or brand licences, quality control reports, and tangible proof of the refunds issued to customers.

If the reformulated appeal is also rejected, three routes remain under the Business Solutions Agreement and Regulation (EU) 2019/1150: the internal complaint, mediation before one of the two bodies Amazon is required to name in its terms, and the courts. Recovering withheld funds is pursued through those channels, not through an automatic procedure.
